Novel Application of a Multiscale Entropy Index as a Sensitive Tool for Detecting Subtle Vascular Abnormalities in the Aged and Diabetic

چکیده
Although previous studies have shown the successful use of pressure-induced reactive hyperemia as a tool for the assessment of endothelial function, its sensitivity remains questionable. This study aims to investigate the feasibility and sensitivity of a novel multiscale entropy index (MEI) in detecting subtle vascular abnormalities in healthy and diabetic subjects. Basic anthropometric and hemodynamic parameters, serum lipid profiles, and glycosylated hemoglobin levels were recorded. Arterial pulse wave signals were acquired from the wrist with an air pressure sensing system (APSS), followed by MEI and dilatation index (DI) analyses. MEI succeeded in detecting significant differences among the four groups of subjects: healthy young individuals, healthy middle-aged or elderly individuals, well-controlled diabetic individuals, and poorly controlled diabetic individuals. A reduction in multiscale entropy reflected age- and diabetes-related vascular changes and may serve as a more sensitive indicator of subtle vascular abnormalities compared with DI in the setting of diabetes.

Proposing a Novel Cost Sensitive Imbalanced Classification Method based on Hybrid of New Fuzzy Cost Assigning Approaches, Fuzzy Clustering and Evolutionary Algorithms
In this paper, a new hybrid methodology is introduced to design a cost-sensitive fuzzy rule-based classification system. A novel cost metric is proposed based on the combination of three different concepts: Entropy, Gini index and DKM criterion. In order to calculate the effective cost of patterns, a hybrid of fuzzy c-means clustering and particle swarm optimization algorithm is utilized. This ...
متن کاملInguinal Abnormalities in Male Patients with Acetabular Fractures Treated Using an Ilioinguinal Exposure
Purpose: Surgeons performing an ilioinguinal exposure for acetabular fracture surgery need to be aware of aberrant findings such as inguinal hernias and spermatic cord lesions. The purpose of this study is to report these occurrences in a clinical series of adult males undergoing acetabular fracture fixation and a series of adult male cadavers. The secondary aim is to characterize these abnorma...
متن کاملA novel method for detecting structural damage based on data-driven and similarity-based techniques under environmental and operational changes
The applications of time series modeling and statistical similarity methods to structural health monitoring (SHM) provide promising and capable approaches to structural damage detection. The main aim of this article is to propose an efficient univariate similarity method named as Kullback similarity (KS) for identifying the location of damage and estimating the level of damage severity. An impr...
متن کاملApplication of Bayesian decision making tool in detecting oil-water contact in a carbonate reservoir
Detection of Oil-Water Contacts (OWCs) is one of the primary tasks before evaluation of reservoir’s hydrocarbon in place, determining net pay zones and suitable depths for perforation operation. This paper introduces Bayesian decision making tool as an effective technique in OWC detecting using wire line logs. To compare strengths of the suggested method in detecting OWC with conventional one, ...
متن کاملMultiscale Cross-Approximate Entropy Analysis of Bilateral Fingertips Photoplethysmographic Pulse Amplitudes among Middle-to-Old Aged Individuals with or without Type 2 Diabetes
Multiscale cross-approximate entropy (MC-ApEn) between two different physiological signals could evaluate cardiovascular health in diabetes. Whether MC-ApEn analysis between two similar signals such as photoplethysmographic (PPG) pulse amplitudes of bilateral fingertips can reflect diabetes status is unknown. From a middle-to-old-aged population free of prior cardiovascular disease, we selected...
